Chevy Malibu

A mid-size car produced by General Motors. It began as a Chevy Chevelle and eventually became it’s own model in 1978.

What started as a rear wheel drive vehicle it became a much safer front wheel drive car in 1997. It is named after the city in California with the same name. The first generation of Malibu was rolled out from 1964-1972 and offered in a range of body styles. The interiors were much more lavish and included patterned cloth and vinyl upholstery.

They also included deep twist carpet and larger steering wheels.Chevy Malibu was redesigned from 1966-1972 and were known for their semi-fastback foorlines, split wheelbases and two-door hardtops.. Rear decks, new taillights and new grilles were also introduced in 1969. In 1981 general motors received a special order from Saddam Hussein for 25,000+ 4 door malibu sedans.

Only 13,000 units made it all the way to Iraq. The majority became taxis in Baghdad and an additional 12,500 sat on the docks collecting rust. There was a safety concern where locals couldn’t shift due to the clutch release. This was called the “Recall in the Desert”. It was suspected that Iraq was forced to bail out of the deal because of problems with Iran. These Malibu’s were eventually sold to the Canadian public at an extreme discount.

The Malibu body style was used extensively from 1973-1983. During the 1975-1977 racing seasons Cale Yarborough won 20 races with the Laguna S-3 variant.

Current generation of Chevrolet malibu: The 2013 Malibu moved to GM Epsilon II platform. It became a global vehicle replacing the North American Malibu and GM Korea vehicles previously sold around the world. They are offered in LS 1LS, LT, 1LT, the LT 2LT, the ECO 1SB, the ECO 2SA and the LTZ 1LZ.

The safety features on the Malibu include dual-stage front airbags for the driver and front passenger with knee airbags and pelvic/thorax side-impact airbags as well. Roof rail airbags with rollover protection is also standard.

Chevy Cobalt

A compact car introduced in 2005. The Cobalt replaced both the Prizm and Cavaliar. It’s available in a coupe and sedan and built around GM Delta platform. It was sold in a Pontiac version as the G5. Cobalts had faulty ignition switches that resulted in crashes and fatalities. In Febuary 2014 GM recalled over 700,000 cobalts with faulty ignition switches. The NHTSA fined the company $35 million for not recalling the cars much sooner.

Cobalts have receiver a top overall crash rating of good for front end crashes. It does not do as well for side impacts and has a poor rating all around.

Cobalt has a history of defects and recalls. In 2007 98,000 were recalled because they didn’t meet federal safety requirements and had an overall lack of padding. This made head injuries much more likely but only effected people who didn’t wear their seatbelt.

In 2010 GM recalled 1.3 million compact cars in North America due to a problem with steering. The ignition switches in the cobalts would cut power to the car while in motion and linked to deaths and crashes which originally started with a teenager who drove into a tree in 2005.

The Chevrolet Corvette is a sports car made by General Motors. it dates back 7 generations. It is named after a small, especially maneuverable warship. While it was originally manufactured in St. Louis, Missouri and Flint, Michigan it is now made in Bowling Green, Kentucky. It has been used as an Indianapolis 500 pace car 12 times.

The first generation Corvette was introduced in the 1953 model year. It was designed as a show car for an auto show in New York. The public responded well to the design and they decided to produce the Corvette in June 30th 1953.

The current generation Corvette has been in development since 2007. It was originally set to be introduced for the 2011 model year but was delayed. It was released in 2014. The Corvette has become known as the “old mans toy” which sparked a redesign for the next generation. 46% of Corvette buyers in 2012 were 55 or older compared to only 22% of Audi R8 and 30 percent of Porsche 911. It was also referred to as the car of “the successful plumber.” The saying goes no one wants to be seen driving an old mans car, but everybody wants to be seen driving a young man’s car. The new Corvette plans on appealing to younger people.

The Chevy Camaro is an automobile manufactured by General Motors under the Chevrolet brand. It is classified as both a pony car and muscle car. It went on sale on September 29th, 1966 and made to compete with the Ford Mustang. In 1966 GM teased the public by releasing cryptic and mysterious messages such as “Please save noon of June 28 for important SEPAW meeting. Hope you can be on hand to help scratch a cat” and a telegram stating “society for the eradication of panthers from the Automotive world will hold first and last meeting on June 28.”

Chevy’s GM Pete Estes then held a live news conference with 14 cities linked up in real time through the telephone. He stated that their new line of car the Camaro “suggests the comradeship of good friends as a personal car should be to its owner” and that “to us, the name means just what we think the car will do…Go!” A Camaro was said to be “a small, vicious animal that eats Mustangs.”

The word Camaro was found in a French-English dictionary to mean “friend, pal, or comrade.” And the name suggests the comradeship of good friends, as a personal car should be to its owner.

The Chevy Camaro was completely redesigned for the 2010 model. GM has made product placement a major emphasis for the Camaro as it was featured in all 3 transformers movies such as Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Transformers: Dark of the Moon and Transformers: Age of Extinction.

Chevy Trailblazer

The Chevrolet Trailblazer is a mid-size sport utility vehicle made by the Chevrolet division of General Motors. Originally introduced in 1999 as an upscale trim line of the blazer it originally branched off into a completely separate model. The first generation was released in 2002-2006 and based on a truck platform called GMT360 all of which came equipped with 4-wheel drive. The SS featured an All wheel drive system. The SS model was introduced for the 2006 model year. It was the first time an SUV had the super sport badge.

258,000 SUVs in the US and Canada were recalled to fix short circuits in power window and door lock switches that can cause fires.

The second generation Trailblazer was unveiled at the 2011 Dubai motor show. It is based on a pickup truck chassis called the Chevrolet Colorado. The Holden Colorado 7 launched in late 2012 and based on the under pinning as the regular Colorado.

The Chevrolet Silverado is part of a series of full-size pickup trucks made by General Motors that came out in 1998. The first GM pick up truck came out in 1930. The first generation of silverado came out in 1998. In 2003 the Silverado SS came out and was one of the best high-performance pickup trucks of its time. In 2005 the Intimidator SS came out to honor Dale Earnhardt.

The second generation of Silverado came out in 2006. It came with a redesigned exterior, interior, frame and suspension as well as more power in the engine. It got North American Truck of the year for 2007 and motor trend magazines Truck of the year for 2007. It offers buyers a choice of two door regular cabs, four door extended cabs and four door crew cabs with rear doors opening in the same direction as the front doors.
